But the short answer, from my point of view your Standard deviation will be wider with raw data, once you make adjustments /corrections to your database information your std deviation has to narrow, that's the true measure.

In short you are right on the mark. Obviously there are other measures which can be relevant such as an application of Finite difference. I won't elaborate on that here though as it is fairly complex and varies depending on its application. If others are interested in learning more about a Finite difference is then I suggest Google as a starting point.
